Café Hoooliday Shanghai : Between Espresso Bar and Tea Salon

Café Hoooliday Shanghai : Between Espresso Bar and Tea Salon
Located at the intersection of Shanghai’s past and present, Hoooliday Shanghai reinterprets the classical spatial language of European espresso bars and salon culture through the city’s distinctive context. Beyond the simple act of drinking coffee, the space invites visitors to consider what it means to pause and spend time in the city.
Dark walnut, muted mint tones, marble, soft tapestries, brass lighting, and antique mirrors come together to create an interior rooted in classical elements yet distinctly contemporary in rhythm. A sense of classicism runs throughout the space without feeling overtly nostalgic. While the layout offers the relaxed atmosphere of a salon, the bar maintains the clear and efficient circulation of a traditional espresso bar. Customers and baristas, preparation and service, light and shadow—all encounter one another at a carefully calibrated density, creating a balanced spatial relationship.
What makes the space particularly compelling is the way its European sensibility intersects with the transitional aesthetics of modern Shanghai. The hybrid ornamentation, modern interpretations, Chinese carvings, and Art Deco influences once found in the French Concession of the 1930s subtly resonate throughout Hoooliday Shanghai today. The brand’s typography is integrated into mouldings and mirrors, while the clover-patterned flooring expresses both its visual identity and the space’s poetic atmosphere.
